Haiti Earthquake Response - 6 month update (Summer 2010)

A country devastated by disaster. Communities turned into nothing more than feeble tents, thousands of people misplaced and seeking shelter, water, and food. Haiti is in desperate need of people willing to carry on long-term relief and development projects through the distribution of aid and sharing the gospel.

Jim Warner, Director of Church Partnership Network, and his wife, Cheryl Warner, Team Trips Leader for Global Aid Network® (GAiN®), have committed to serving in Haiti for up to a year as GAiN liaisons. Jim and Cheryl have been on staff with Campus Crusade for almost nine years, and have worked with GAiN for six and half years. During that time they have led teams to Jamaica, Kenya, and Haiti.

In March, Cheryl led a team to Haiti without Jim. During the week, Cheryl felt a strong call to return full time, and even though Jim stayed at home, he too felt God urging them to move to Haiti.

On May 31, the Warners along with their two daughters, Jamie and Janessa, landed in Haiti. They then traveled to the community of Chambrun, where GAiN and partner ministries have been working over the past year and a half. While there, they will be working with Esperandieu Pierre, the Haitian National Director of Campus Crusade for Christ’s local ministry, Nehemiah Vision Ministry, who has been leading many of the initiatives in the area.

They will help assist Pastor Pierre in a variety of areas. Jim will work alongside Pastor Pierre helping him with selection, training and development of ministry leadership, as well as ministering in local church plants, assisting in strategic planning, and helping with camp management. Cheryl will help Nehemiah Vision Ministry manage volunteers and lead GAiN short-term teams when they arrive. She will also assist Pastor Pierre and Nehemiah Vision Ministry with establishing a new children’s home.

Jim, when asked about his move to Haiti, said, “…after being amongst the Haitians and seeing the passion that pastor Pierre has for his people, we’ve fallen in love with Haiti. We are here now, adjusting to our new life in Haiti, helping to bring many Haitians to Christ. What a blessing!”
