JAPAN TSUNAMI UPDATE
In March, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake hit the northeast side of Japan, triggering a massive tsunami that left hundreds dead and many more injured. The earthquake and resulting tsunami left millions in need of basic necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing.
Global Aid Network® (GAiN®) immediately began accepting donations to assist in the tsunami recovery. In coordination with Global Aid Network offices around the world and Campus Crusade for Christ in-country staff and partner ministries, GAiN helped provide for the needs of those affected by the tsunami.
The stories below can be shared today because of the generous donations of friends like you. Thank you for your partnership in transforming lives through the compassion.
Because you gave…
A local pastor established a hub for distributing supplies and housing evacuees. The center has not only distributed more than 10 tons of supplies to victims, but church members prepare dinner every day for around 200 people. The residents have expressed gratitude to the center and the church members for the relationships established through this outreach. The residents recognized the heart of those servants who have made a long-term commitment to the recovery. Because of the generous gift of donors, ministry partners are able to share the love of Christ.
Another church in Japan reached out to victims living in an evacuation center. For their first project they created a children’s corner on one floor of the center. Using donated funds, the church provided toys, books, and other supplies for the children in the center. In turn, parents received time to rest as they dealt with the trauma they experienced.
Local partners have also reached out to evacuees living in non-government sponsored housing. While many have been provided shelter, they still lack furniture and other items such as refrigerators, gas stoves, and other essentials. After conducting need-assessment interviews with each family to determine who receives the funding for these items, the partner is responding to needs.
While this tragedy continues to impact the people of Japan, the compassion and care of many donors, volunteers, churches, and ministries have made a difference. Delivering food, clothing, and shelter helped meet many physical needs, while caring believers and Christian counselors have helped address spiritual and emotional needs.
Because you give… Disaster relief funds help meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Through the gifts provided through Global Aid Network and friendsd, our partners have been able to respond to hurting people with God’s love and compassion. In the process, many hearts have opened to the gospel. Thank you for your support of Global Aid Network’s Disaster Relief projects.
